Born and bred in Whakatane Scott also had 12 years as a Whakatane District Councillor and when not at work he is actively involved with Theatre Whakatane having been a past President, served on committee, directed, and performed on stage- he is an avid supporter of the arts locally. In 2013 he was presented with a merit award for services from Musical Theatre NZ.
